Adhesive label material tension problem

What will happen if adhesive label material we buy with too tight tension:

A. Material damage

1) Facestock material stretching and deformation: Winding too tightly will cause the self-adhesive label facestock to excessive stretching and deformation, it is easy to break during subsequent processing or use.

2) Damage to glue performance: Excessive winding pressure may squeeze the glue layer, causing the glue to overflow, destroying the uniformity of the glue and affecting the viscosity. Moreover, under high pressure for a long time, the glue may age faster, resulting in reduced viscosity and making the label easy to fall off during use.

3) Backing paper breaking: Winding too tightly will produce greater pressure and tension on the backing paper, especially for thinner paper, which is easy to break. Once the base paper is broken, it will bring difficulties to die-cutting, labeling and other processes.

B. Printing problems

1) Inaccurate printing: If adhesive label material tension is too tight, the material may rebound, jump and resulting in uneven transmission speed of self-adhesive materials, making it difficult to ensure overprint accuracy

2) Ink adhesion problems: Excessive tightening of the material may affect the surface flatness. During the printing process, the ink may have problems such as uneven ink color and deformation, reducing the clarity of the printed product.

C. Inconvenience in subsequent processing and use

1) Difficulty in die-cutting: If the backing paper is deformed or slightly damaged due to too tight winding, it will be difficult to separate the waste from the label during the die-cutting process , and the waste is likely to stick to the label.

2) Poor labeling: When labeling self-adhesive materials wind too tightly,the label is easy to curl up after labeling. Moreover, on some automatic labeling equipment, the uneven tension of the material may cause inaccurate labeling position.

What we can do when adhesive label material with too tight tension:

Supplier: adjust the winding data and winding speed, inspect and maintain the equipment, and train the production staff. After the self-adhesive material is produced, it needs to be stored at about 20℃ and the relative humidity is controlled at about 50%.

1.Store the adhesive label material at a temperature of 20℃-25℃ and a relative humidity of 50% for 24 hours, if too tight tension is caused by Inappropriate temperature or humidity, this will help a lot.

2. Rewind it if possible.

3.Negotiate with supplier and ask them to solve this problem, If the supplier cannot solve this problem, change the supplier.

What will happen if adhesive label material we buy has loose tension?

1) Material damage and deformation: If the rolls are too loose, the self-adhesive materials are easy to shaking, shifting, and deformation during subsequent handling, storage or printing, affecting the quality of the final printed product.

2)Printing effect is not good: Because the rolls is too loose, the material transfer speed is uneven,making it difficult to ensure accurate printing.

3) Influence production efficiency: Various problems caused by too loose rolls, such as material adjustment and equipment shutdown, will cause the printing production process to be interrupted and reduce production efficiency.

 How to solve the problem of too loose rolls:

Supplier: Adjust the roll parameters and roll speed during coating, adjust the mechanical production parameters, and train production person.

1. Rewind, you can rewind those rolls with higher tension and pressure at secondary slitter
